Declutter & Organise
Simple, realistic ways to reduce the clutter, make better use of your space and create a home that feels calmer and easier to live in.
5 Simple Ways to Make Your Home Feel Less Cluttered
1. Give Everyday Clutter a Home
The things that make a home feel cluttered are often the things we use every day — keys, post, chargers, bags, shoes and all those little bits that never seem to have a proper place.
Instead of constantly tidying them away, give them somewhere easy to go. A basket by the door, a small tray for keys or a box for chargers can make a surprisingly big difference.
🌿 Gather & Bloom Tip
Put storage where the clutter naturally appears, rather than where you think it should go. If everyone drops their keys by the door, that’s exactly where the key tray belongs.
2. Clear the Surfaces You See Most
Kitchen worktops, coffee tables and hallway consoles can quickly become a home for everything — post, cups, chargers, paperwork and all the little things we put down and forget about.
You don’t need completely empty surfaces. Keep a few things you love on display, then remove or find a home for everything else. Even clearing just one busy surface can make the whole room instantly feel calmer.
🌿 Gather & Bloom Tip
Try the “one-minute reset”. Before you leave a room, spend just one minute putting away anything that doesn’t belong on the main surface. Little resets throughout the day can stop clutter from building up.
3. Make Better Use of Cupboards
Cupboards can easily become the place where everything gets pushed out of sight. But when they’re overcrowded, finding what you need becomes harder and things often end up back on the worktop.
Group similar items together and use baskets, trays or small containers to create simple sections. You don’t need a perfectly organised cupboard — you just need to be able to see what you have and easily put things back.
🌿 Gather & Bloom Tip
Before buying lots of storage containers, organise the cupboard first. Once you know what actually needs storing, you can choose baskets or organisers that genuinely make the space work better.
4. Create Simple Drop Zones
Some clutter happens simply because we need somewhere quick to put things when we walk through the door. Bags, shoes, keys, post and everyday essentials can quickly spread around the house.
Create a small “drop zone” near the entrance or wherever these things naturally collect. A basket for shoes, hooks for bags and coats, and a little tray for keys can keep everything together without making your home feel overly organised.
🌿 Gather & Bloom Tip
Keep your drop zone simple. If it takes too much effort to use, nobody will use it! A few hooks, one basket and a small tray can be all you need.
5. Reset One Space at a Time
When the whole house feels cluttered, trying to tackle everything at once can quickly become overwhelming. Instead, choose one small space — a drawer, shelf, worktop or corner — and concentrate on that.
Clear it, decide what actually needs to stay there and put everything else back where it belongs. Small resets are much easier to keep up with, and over time they can make a big difference to how your whole home feels.
🌿 Gather & Bloom Tip
Pick one area that you see every day. Even spending ten minutes resetting that one space can give you the motivation to tackle another when you’re ready.
